Edge Fire Tough/Smelter Sock

Description

Our Australian manufactured specialist Fire Tough/Smelter Sock is a unique, comfortable, three layer constructed wool/nylon/wool garment. The garment was engineered to provide an additional layer of protection for employees working in primary smelters where molten metal can enter safety footwear or penetrate protective work wear. The garment is however multi-purpose and suitable for any environment where there is risk of injury from extreme heat, ignition or molten metal splash.

The garment's ability to protect the wearer against injury lies in a unique knitting process. Tightly knitted layers assist in diffusing flame immediately, allowing the garment to resist extreme heat and molten metal to temperatures of 1400°C. In such extreme conditions, the garment will not melt and affix itself to the wearer's body. The combination of fibres plus the cushioning of the foot ensures comfort, stretch and durability.

The garment is available in knee length only and is best suited to environments with hot metal areas such as primary smelters where protection against flashover flame, extreme heat and hot metal splash is required. The garment is also suitable for structural and wildland fire fighting, police/armed forces and emergency services and other high risk environments such as petrochemical sites, oil rigs, electric utilities and general heavy industry.

Product Information

• Knee length three layer construction featuring tightly knitted layers.
• Wool (85%) and Nylon (15%).
• Outer layer - heavy gauge wool construction.
• Middle layer - nylon layer for durability.
• Inner layer - wool for comfort and cushioning.
• Application - conditions of extreme heat.
• Australian made and tested by WRONZ, New Zealand, for resistance to molten aluminium (780°C), cast iron (1400°C) and ease of ignition and protection against flame. Ignition test time exceeds 20 seconds.
