About Emphatex® Fabric

Emphatex® is a state-of-the-art performance textile that is all about maximising enjoyment and comfort from outdoor activities in any kind of weather. The advanced scientific technology demonstrates double-digit improvements over the performance of most WPB (waterproof, breathable) laminates and coatings. Science like this allows outer-wear manufacturers to produce technical apparel for even the toughest conditions.

The secret behind Emphatex® technology is a proprietary formula of super hydrophilic polymer modifiers that creates a stronger-than-normal osmotic pressure gradient. This actually attracts water vapour molecules to the coating, wicks them across the membrane by molecular action, and passes them through to the exterior visually akin to how water moves up a towel when dipped in water.

Fabric Features

All Emphatex® fabrics are inherently waterproof, windproof and breathable. Emphatex® is one of the few fabrics available that combines performance with comfort and is available across a range of protective industrial wear options.

High Visibility

By using a High Visibility fabric Emphatex® Hi Vis will have all of the benefits of wet weather protection and comfort with the added safety of being seen in almost any day time condition. Our High Visibility range of woven and knitted fabrics have been engineered to meet specific requirements in a variety of dangerous and demanding environments.

Emphatex® Hi Vis sets new standards on providing high levels of wearer comfort, durability and versatility. Emphatex® Hi Vis yellow and orange meet the luminescence and chromaticity requirements for EN 471 and AS/NZS 1906.4 standards.

Flame Retardant

By using a flame retardant coating or film lamination, Emphatex® FR will provide a high level of protection and comfort. This barrier ensures insulation against flame and in some cases, radiant heat. Although water is the ally of the firefighter, it can also be a hindrance if the coat fabric has wetted out. With the Emphatex® FR waterproof membrane, water will not penetrate the garment, and with the added benefit of the breathable membrane, bodily fluid loss through perspiration is minimised, thus reducing heat stress. Formulations and fabric compositions can also be engineered to comply with specific fire standards.

Wet Weather

Emphatex® is waterproof with a water-repellent finish that will provide protection even in the foulest weather. The membrane structure combined with an appropriate seam sealing process will ensure that the fabric meets even the most stringent water-proof standards. What's more, Emphatex® is completely breathable and windproof. It can also provide thermal insulation by holding insulating air layers in the garment thus maintaining warmth in cold conditions.

Anti Static

Emphatex® anti static protective apparel fabric has been developed for a number of different environments including Petrochemical, Aviation, Defence, Automotive, Mining, Power Generation and Computer, where it is essential to protect people from static charge.

Emphatex® anti static fabric is also durable and serviceable. Being dry cleanable it can withstand regular cleaning, whilst retaining effective functional performance.

Emphastat™ FR E 923CL

Emphastat™ E 923CL to brushed Wool Fleece. Flame retarded lamination with moisture vapour permeable, hydrophilic interlayer and 100% windproof.

Composition - 19.5 m Flame Retarded Wool fleece to polyester anti static face fabric.

The trilobal, carbon, conductive element of the NegaStat® bi-component yarn is fully encapsulated within a polyester sheath, so that it is effectively protected from the abrasive processes of wash and wear, sterilization and chemical attack. Conventional carbon fibres used in anti static fabrics are fully exposed to surface damage during garment service and maintenance, which can impair anti static performance if the continuity of the conducting threads is damaged.

*Specialty Group tests breathability to an internal method, inverted cup and desiccant method. ISO-11092 is the only internationally recognised method for assessment of breathability, in its application for wearer comfort. The results of the Moisture Vapour Permeable (breathability) test achieved using test method ISO-11092 are those recognised as limits for defining wearer comfort.

Care Instructions

Emphatex® products are designed to be washed on a wool cycle at 35ºC, using soap flake or non-biological detergents, which do not contain oxygenating agents. Normal dry cleaning is acceptable. Do not use Aromatic fluids or solvents to remove stains. To maintain a repellent finish garments are to be ironed using a fabric of cotton or polyester/cotton covering the area to be ironed, with an iron setting on high.
